GHCL Ltd has been granted regulatory approval to increase its Soda Ash production capacity from 11,00,000 (eleven lakh) Tons per annum (TPA) to 12,00,000 (twelve lakh) TPA, in accordance with the consent conditions.

Since its incorporation on October 14th, 1983, GHCL Ltd has become a diversified conglomerate with a market capitalization of approximately Rs 3000 Crores. It has a presence in the Chemicals, Textiles, and Consumer Products segments. The company manufactures Soda Ash (Anhydrous Sodium Carbonate), a key ingredient for detergents, glass, ceramics, and other industries, and Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) . The company operates a Soda Ash manufacturing plant in Sutrapada, Gujarat with an installed production capacity of 11 Lakh Metric Tons Per Annum (MTPA) and plans to expand it by another 500 Thousand MTPA by end of 2025. GHCL’s Soda Ash is available in two grades – light and dense grade and is marketed in India under the brand name ‘Lion’. Additionally, the company also has lignite mines in Khadsaliya, Gujarat, which supply the raw material needed for the production of Soda Ash. Furthermore, GHCL produces around 65 Thousand MTPA of Sodium Bicarbonate, which is an important raw material for industries such as bakery, pharmaceuticals, fire extinguisher manufacturing, and cleaning agents, among others.
