Reliance Launches ₹999 Jio Bharat Phones
In a bid to capitalize on the growing 5G revolution, Reliance Jio is set to introduce budget-friendly internet-enabled phones priced at just ₹999. The brainchild of Mukesh Ambani, the telecommunications giant aims to conduct beta testing for the initial batch of 1 million Jio Bharat phones starting from July 7. This move is expected to empower 250 million feature phone users in India by providing them with affordable access to the internet.
The Jio Bharat phones, priced at ₹999, will be accompanied by two attractively cheaper calling and data plans. According to the latest updates from the company, the monthly plan offered by Jio Bharat is 30% more cost-effective compared to similar offerings from other operators, and it includes seven times more data.
“The monthly plan priced at ₹123 provides unlimited voice calls and 14 GB of data, whereas other operators charge ₹179 for voice calls and 2 GB of data,” highlighted the company.
Chairman Akash Ambani expressed, “In India, there are still 250 million mobile phone users who remain stuck in the 2G era, unable to access basic internet features at a time when the world is on the brink of a 5G revolution.” He emphasized the need to bridge this digital divide.
The upcoming beta tests will encompass 6,500 tehsils across the country, enabling Reliance Jio to gather valuable feedback and refine their offerings.

A recent analyst report highlighted that Reliance Jio is at the forefront of the 5G rollout in India, with Bharti Airtel occupying a relatively distant second position.
“Across multiple circles, Bharti Airtel falls behind Reliance Jio in various metrics, indicating a comparatively slower pace of roll-outs in the 21 circles. This poses potential risks of higher capital expenditure and market share losses if not addressed,” stated a report by JP Morgan.
