Shakti Pumps proudly announced its triumphant win of a massive Rs 149.71-crore contract within the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan scheme (PM-KUSUM Scheme). This momentous achievement marks the initiation of Component C within this visionary government initiative.
The historic announcement from Shakti Pumps stated, “We are thrilled to unveil our maiden commercial order secured under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme, in collaboration with Ajmer Viduyt Vitran Nigam Limited, with a total value of Rs 149.71 crore.”
This ambitious project entails the replacement of inefficient electric pump sets with cutting-edge BLDC (brushless DC) solar pump sets. These solar-powered pump sets harness energy from the sun, allowing surplus electricity to be seamlessly redirected to the grid.
This groundbreaking advancement brings remarkable benefits to farmers nationwide. It not only enhances irrigation capabilities but also reduces dependence on traditional energy sources. Furthermore, it presents a unique opportunity for farmers to generate income by selling excess power to distribution companies (discoms).
Shakti Pumps Chairman, Dinesh Patidar, enthusiastically stated, “This revolutionary step transforms our ‘Annadata’ (food providers) into ‘Urja data’ (energy providers). Discoms can recoup the pump set cost of Rs 10 lakh in just five years, thanks to annual energy bill savings of up to Rs 2 lakh. Simultaneously, farmers stand to earn up to Rs 50,000 annually and a whopping Rs 2.5 lakh over five years by supplying surplus power to discoms.”
This scheme empowers farmers by granting them greater control over their livelihoods, boosting irrigation capacity, and decreasing reliance on conventional energy sources. It ultimately contributes to ensuring energy security for farmers across India.
The PM-KUSUM scheme, inaugurated in 2019, aims to augment solar capacity by an impressive 30,800 MW by 2022. The total central financial support for this endeavor, including service charges to implementing agencies, amounts to a substantial Rs 34,422 crore.
In recognition of the unforeseen challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Government extended the PM-KUSUM scheme until March 2026. This extension reaffirms the commitment to fulfilling the scheme’s objectives.
The scheme comprises three integral components:
Component A: Installation of 10,000 MW of solar capacity through small power plants with a capacity of up to 2 MW.
Component B: Installation of 20 lakh standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps.
Component C: Solarization of 15 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps.
With Shakti Pumps spearheading transformative change in the agricultural sector, the future of farming in India looks brighter than ever under the PM-KUSUM scheme. This visionary initiative stands as a testament to the nation’s unwavering commitment to sustainable agriculture and energy security.
