Tata Motors Launches Re.Wi.Re – India’s First Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan
Tata Motors has taken a significant step towards promoting a circular economy with the launch of its first registered vehicle scrapping facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The facility, called Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect), has an annual capacity of scrapping 15,000 vehicles and is developed and operated by Tata Motors’ partner, Ganganagar Vaahan Udyog Pvt. Ltd.
Re.Wi.Re is designed to scrap end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands, making it an essential facility for India’s growing automotive industry. The facility uses world-class and environmentally friendly processes for the safe and sustainable dismantling of end-of-life vehicles. It is entirely digital and paperless, with specific stations for the safe breakdown of components such as tyres, batteries, gasoline, oils, liquids, and gases.
During the inauguration ceremony, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, praised the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, which aims to promote a circular economy by phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles and replacing them with greener and more fuel-efficient vehicles. He also congratulated Tata Motors for setting up the Re.Wi.Re facility, which meets global standards.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, said, “With globally benchmarked and optimized recycling processes, we intend to yield maximum value from the scrap for future use and minimize waste for the overall betterment.” Tata Motors plans to set up more Re.Wi.Re facilities across the country in collaboration with its partners. These decentralised facilities will benefit customers, share the economic value generated, create employment, and address the need for scrapping vehicles in every part of the country in an eco-friendly manner.
The launch of Re.Wi.Re marks a significant milestone in India’s automotive industry and its transition to a circular economy. As India aims to position itself as a vehicle scrapping hub for the entire South Asian region, more state-of-the-art scrapping and recycling units like Re.Wi.Re will be required to achieve a lower carbon footprint and promote sustainability.
