In a significant stride towards bolstering its operational efficiency, Air India announced the inauguration of a state-of-the-art engineering spares warehouse in Delhi. This expansive facility, covering an impressive 54,000 square feet and strategically positioned near Terminal 3 within Delhi Airport’s cargo complex, is poised to revolutionize aircraft maintenance processes.
The centralized warehousing hub is poised to be a game-changer, effectively slashing turnaround times for flights departing from Delhi. Air India’s latest endeavor offers a comprehensive solution for the storage of a diverse range of aircraft spares, tools, and ground support equipment. This encompasses everything from basic hardware to intricate avionics, hydraulics, structural, pneumatic, and mechanical components.
Campbell Wilson, the CEO and MD of Air India, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s potential impact, stating, “This facility will not only boost Air India’s fleet and operational efficiency but will also strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem. The warehouse will offer us more proximate access to and better control over our aircraft spares enabling us to meet any engineering requirement promptly — leading to improved punctuality of flights.”
The newly inaugurated warehouse marks a pivotal milestone in Air India’s commitment to enhancing its fleet’s maintenance and service capabilities. It will serve as a central point of convergence, seamlessly integrating 16 previously disparate locations across Delhi and Mumbai. This consolidation will facilitate a streamlined approach to Air India, Air India Express, and AIX Connect fleet maintenance operations, functioning as a pivotal hub and feeder network for nationwide operations.
One of the key benefits of this cutting-edge facility is the enhanced control over inventory, leading to a more streamlined airline operation. Situated in close proximity to Air India’s aircraft hangars at Terminal 3 of the IGI airport, the warehouse is strategically positioned to expedite the movement of critical spares, ensuring swift resolution of technical issues.
