In a significant development, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the renowned engineering and construction conglomerate, has clinched a colossal contract valued at over ₹7,000 crore. This substantial project entails the intricate design and construction of a mega underground tunnel.
The contract was awarded to L&T Construction’s heavy civil infrastructure division by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
This ambitious undertaking involves the creation of an underground road tunnel that will stretch from the Orange Gate on the Eastern Freeway to the coastal road at Marine Drive in Mumbai.
According to a statement released by the company, the project’s scope of work encompasses the design and construction of twin road tunnels, utilizing cutting-edge tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Additionally, the project will involve seamlessly connecting these tunnels to the existing elevated Eastern Freeway at the southern terminal near Orange Gate through transition ramps. The final link will connect to Marine Drive in Mumbai.
The entire project is slated for completion within a timeframe of 54 months.
