Maruti Suzuki begins Work on Two New Solar Power Plants to Bolster Carbon Neutrality Efforts

Maruti Suzuki India, a prominent automobile manufacturer, has recently embarked on the development of two cutting-edge solar power plants within its facilities, affirming its steadfast commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.

In an official statement released on Monday, the company unveiled plans for two upcoming solar power plants: a 1.85 MWp (megawatt peak) installation at the R&D Centre in Rohtak, and a larger 20 MWp facility at Manesar. The former is expected to be operational during the fiscal year 2023-24, while the latter will be commissioned in the subsequent fiscal year of 2024-25. Maruti Suzuki India also disclosed that these additions will elevate the total solar power capacity across all their facilities to an impressive 48.15 MWp.

Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki India is actively striving to augment the proportion of green power procured from the Haryana State Electricity Board to meet its energy consumption requirements. Hisashi Takeuchi, the Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, emphasized the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance the utilization of renewable energy sources since the inception of their first solar power plant in 2014. The introduction of these new solar power initiatives at Manesar and Rohtak signifies a notable acceleration of Maruti Suzuki’s sustainability endeavors.

Takeuchi anticipates that, by the fiscal year 2024-25, over 30 percent of Maruti Suzuki India’s energy needs will be fulfilled through renewable energy sources, a significant milestone in their pursuit of a greener future.
