Mukesh Ambani Claims ‘Richest Indian’ Title by Surpassing Gautam Adani
Mukesh Ambani, the visionary leader behind Reliance Industries Limited, has reclaimed his throne as India’s wealthiest individual, surpassing Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group. This shift in fortune comes following a significant drop in Gautam Adani’s wealth due to the impactful Hindenburg Research report, as revealed in the recently released Hurun India Rich List 2023.
On Tuesday, Hurun India in collaboration with 360 ONE Wealth unveiled the much-anticipated 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023. This marks the 12th annual ranking, providing an insightful snapshot of the wealthiest personalities in India.
In its report, the publication notes, “Despite Reliance Industries’ subdued performance in the stock market, Mukesh Ambani, aged 66, has reclaimed his coveted position as India’s wealthiest individual, surpassing Gautam Adani, who experienced a substantial downturn in his wealth due to the Hindenburg effect.”
The report also highlights the tremendous impact of Reliance Industries, which has made cumulative investments exceeding an astounding $150 billion over the past decade. Remarkably, during this period, Mukesh Ambani’s wealth has skyrocketed from Rs 1.65 lakh crore in 2014 to an impressive Rs 8.08 lakh crore in 2023, representing a remarkable four-fold increase.
In this evolving landscape, Gautam Adani, aged 61, now holds the second position with a wealth of Rs 4.74 lakh crore. Cyrus S Poonawalla, the venerable founder of Serum Institute of India, maintains his spot at number three, boasting a substantial wealth of Rs 2.78 lakh crore as of 2023.
Shiv Nadar, aged 78 and hailing from HCL, holds strong in the fourth position with a wealth of Rs 2.29 lakh crore, followed closely by Gopichand Hinduja & family with a combined wealth of Rs 1.76 lakh crore. Dilip Shanghvi, the visionary founder and leader of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, secures the sixth spot with Rs 1.64 lakh crore.

Yatin Shah, Co-Founder of 360 ONE and Joint CEO of 360 ONE Wealth, underscores the list’s significance, stating, “With 1,319 individuals now possessing Rs 1,000 crore or more, we are witnessing a remarkable surge, up by 76 percent over the last five years. The cumulative wealth of our listers has surged to Rs 109 lakh crore, surpassing the combined GDP of Singapore, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. This year’s list highlights the immense entrepreneurial spirit of the country, with 64 percent being self-made.”
